  1. The PGE supplement was a commercial extract from red and white grape seeds and skins, extracted using a proprietary water-based method and provided by New Zealand Extracts Ltd (Marlborough, New Zealand). The predominant phenolic component in the extract was oligomeric proanthocyanidin (OPC), comprising >40 % of total polyphenols. Total polyphenol content was measured using Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) 15th Edition 952.03 standard methods. Placebo comprised magnesium stearate matched by capsule number, capsule weight and capsule size (size ‘0’) to the PGE treatments
